TUNISIA - H.E. Mohamed Mezghani

Ambassador Mohamed Mezghani was born on 4th November 1959 in Gafsa, Tunisia.
He graduated from the National Institute of Administration (ENA) in 1987 with the high rank of Counsellor of Public Services and he has studied, in 1998, at the Brussels’ Institute of European Studies.
Mr Mezghani initiated his professional career in February 1987 in the Economic Counsellor Section at the Prime Minister’s Office in his capacity as Counsellor responsible for the coordination and follow up of the IMF “Structural Adjustment Programme”. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989.
Ambassador Mezghani is married and father of two children.
Professional career:
• Since October 2016: Ambassador, General Director of Political and Economic Affairs and Cooperation with Europe, the European Union and the Mediterranean.
• 2016: Member of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Cabinet.
• From 2013 to 2016: Ambassador of Tunisia to Spain.
• From 2012 to 2013: Director of Relations with the European countries not members of the European Union and Russia at the General Directorate of Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• From 2010 to 2012: Secondment at Private Sector: General Manager of a Euro-Mediterranean company specialized in Logistics and international transport.
• From 2007 to 2010: Ambassador, General Consul of Tunisia to Marseille.
• From 2005 to 2007: Ambassador of Tunisia to Malta.
• From 2001 to 2005:
- Official Representative to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Director of Relations with the European Union and the Mediterranean.
- Head of the Tunisian delegation to the Association Committee Tunisia-UE.
- Head of the Tunisian delegation to the Joint Committee Tunisia-UE in charge of Social Affairs and Migration.
- Head of the Tunisian delegation for the negotiations of the Action Plan Tunisia-U.E within the Framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy.
- Head of the Tunisian delegation for the negotiations of the Free Trade Agreement between Tunisia and EFTA countries.
- Head of the Tunisian delegation for the negotiations of a Free Trade Area Agreement between the Arab Mediterranean countries (Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan and Egypt).
- Member of the High Officials’ Committees of the 5+5 Dialogue, of the Barcelona Process and of the Mediterranean Forum.
- Member and then Vice-President of the Tunisian delegation in charge of negotiating the Association and Free Trade Agreement between Tunisia and the European Union.
• From 1993 to 1999: Minister Counsellor, Deputy Ambassador of Tunisia to the European Union in Brussels.
• From 1992- 1993: Director in charge of the Relations with the European Economic Community, European Organisms and Mediterranean Institutions at the General Directorate of Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• From 1989 to 1992: Deputy Director in charge of Relations with the European Economic Community at the General Directorate of Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
