The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Austria, in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO), hosted the 4th Korea-Austria Economic Cooperation Forum on 15 October from 09:30 to 14:40 at the Vienna Marriott Hotel. Bringing together around 70 government and industry representatives from Korea and Austria, the Forum provided an opportunity to exchange views on defence industry policies and market developments in both countries and to discuss avenues for future cooperation.
Participants included H.E. Ham Sang-wook, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Austria, senior Austrian government officials, including representatives from the Federal Ministry for Economy, Energy and Tourism, representatives of around 30 Austrian defence-related companies, as well as representatives of major Korean defence companies, including Hanwha Aerospace and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Ham noted that “amid a rapidly changing international security environment, a strong defence industrial base and reliable partnerships are more important than ever.” He added that “as strategic partners sharing fundamental values, Korea and Austria should further expand practical cooperation in the defence industry by combining their complementary strengths.” A particular feature of this year’s Forum was the introduction of one-on-one business meetings between Korean and Austrian companies. These meetings enabled participating companies to move beyond the exchange of general information and explore concrete business and partnership opportunities.
Following the first Forum in 2023, which focused on hydrogen and space, the second Forum in 2024 on semiconductors and mobility, and the third Forum in 2025 on life sciences and healthcare, this year’s fourth Korea-Austria Economic Cooperation Forum focused on new opportunities for industrial cooperation amid growing international attention to strengthening defence capabilities in response to changes in the global security environment.
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Austria will continue to work closely with the Austrian Government and business community to broaden Korea-Austria economic cooperation into future strategic industries and to support Korean companies seeking opportunities in the Austrian and wider European markets.
